To import pictures created w/ AdPro 2.5 in AVID's Media Suite Pro
Digital Video we need a loader/saver for the Apple MAC PICT format.
Any ideas? If not, do you know a (PD) program which converts PICT to
a AdPro known format?
If you get the Professional Conversion Pack for ADPro, it includes
loaders AND savers for PICT format and many more.
ADPro's Profesional Conversion Pac has an ADPro Loader & Saver. But,
I have found most programs on the Mac don't like it except for
Photoshop where you have to bring it in using Load As. But, since
Photoshop has an Amiga IFF loader, why bother with the ProConversion
Pac. Besides, if you need to attach an alpha channel to your image,
using Photoshop is going to be about the only way to do this. -Steve
To the best of my knowledge, Photoshop does not support 24-bit IFF
(only the color-mapped modes). I would recommend using a format like
TIFF or TARGA. They are much for common than PICT and resource forks
are less of a problem.
Come on ASDG, what rev of PS are you using? PhotoShop 2.5s been out a
while now and can load 24 bit IFFs no problem. The IFF images can
also be much smaller than TGA or TIFF because of its native
compression. I have found applications that demand ASDGs Pro pack
though :^)
Nope, Photoshop 2.5 handles 24-bit IFFs perfectly. Do it all the
time. But, you're right TIFF & TARGA are more popular. I create
graphic stills that go to our edit bay via a Mac and a hardware
(black box) and software set called Titleman by Digital F/X
(defunct). It accepts it's own proprietary format (sort of like a
framestore), PICT or EPSF. Well it won't take an ADPro PICT unless
processed through Photoshop, which works out well because I typically
need to attach and alpha channel image to it for Titleman's key
channel. I've never gotten an EPSF to work, though, and that's okay
because I don't think it buys me anything.
BTW, did I read in the manual that imported PICT images with an alpha
channel can be composited using that alpha channel somehow? How? How
does ADPro handle a 32-bit image? -Steve
ADPro 2.5 can composit using an imbedded alpha channel with any file
format that supports an imbeeded alpha channel.
I tried doing that with a 32-bit PICT a while ago with no success. Now
that I understand Photoshop & alphas in general a lot better, I'll give it
another shot. I'll let you know of successes/failures.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who can't get ASDG/Titleman PICTs to
like each other…
It's that darn Mac resource fork, Titleman expects it to be there.
Besides, from the Amiga, you can't embed the alpha channel, and using
Titleman's chroma key (key on color) for the most part is worthless.
So, Photoshop becomes essential. -Steve
You may want to get ImageMasterR/T on the Amiga side or debabelizer
on the Mac side. The ASDG PICT loader/savers from the pro conversion
pac have some problems with PICT files produced from the Avid and
TitleMan on the Mac. I called about the problem but ASDG tech
support couldn't help. I sent the file to them, but never heard any
more from them, so I assume it is a problem that, from their
perspective, is not worth fixing.
The upshot is that I have to use TIFF as the file exchange format
when dealing with the Mac based on-line suite. They then have to do
the TIF to PICT conversion for the applications that must have PICTs.
