#Mach 64 Delay FIXED!
5 messages in this thread
Good news!
We, with a bit of information from ATI, have been able to fix the delay
problems with switching modes in the ATI Mach64! It will be available in the
1.0.4 Inline driver.
Basically, for those techies who want to know, the problem was that we jumped
to ATI's BIOS Query function, which called their VESA implementation. Their
VESA implementation read the information from the ATI EEPROM. The speed problem
comes in whenever the EEPROM is read, the BIOS waits for a vertical sync…
Thus the slowdown. The fix was to turn off the video output before the call,
which avoids the vsync delay. Switching modes only takes a second or so now…

PS: I have been asking Autodesk for release information on 1.0.4, but
I am still waiting, so I don't know when the fix will be available,
but it should be very soon.
Great news Chuck,
Might get that new ATI now!
Ian.
YES!
This would make the ATI a very viable card for 3DS.
You guys are GREAT. Thanks Chuck!

Chuck,
Excellent news. I may re-order the ATI when the 1.0.4 drivers are out.
Many thanks to you and Tim Little for your persistance and speed in pursuing
this.
