#VP Kills Alpha
5 messages in this thread
Hi Gary, Here's a Video Post question. A lot of people have been asking me why
Mirage doesn't support the Alpha Channel. My response has been that Mirage DOES
support Alpha. Then someone lead me through this little exercise. Go into Video
Post, add two entries. One Bitmap with a 32 bit image. Then one process entry
using Mirage. Render. The 32 bit entry after processed through Mirage now has
no Alpha data! I know Mirage supports Alpha, so I dig a little deeper. In Video
Post create one queue entry, make it a 32 bit bitmap image. Now render this
alone in Video Post and, when it's done, no Alpha data. Video Post is stripping
the Alpha info. What gives? Will this be addressed? David – Digimation
David, PMJI, but I just tested your claim and you are mistaken. The only way I
could get VP not to write out the alpha was to turn off alpha in the
render/options dialog. BTW, this is usually defaulted to off – you have to turn
on alpha when you render – even if your images have alpha data in them. It's
not VP.

David,
I've done a little testing on this problem and VP will hand the alpha channel
down to the next entry in video post only if you have the alpha option turned
on AND you queue the alpha channel in the transparency setting for the previous
entry. This will do the trick!

Both David and Aaron's answers are totally right-on.

David,
PMJI- You didn't mention if you had edited the Alpha column of your
bitmap image to select Queue Alpha Channel. Check 8-139 thru 8-144 in the Ref
Manual.
