For those who wish to achieve the productivity improvements provided by 3DS'
ability to distribute rendering activity across a network, without having to
purchase numerous PC, wrestle with setting up a network, resolve
network/operating system
compatability problems, figure out what to do with the extra PC's, or
coordinate their shared use — Render Garden/Farm/Jungle provides the solution
in uniquely engineered box inclusive of all the hardware and software necessary
to plug and play. IT REALLY WORKS and the productivity gains are REAL.
AM Labs is an animation shop company that is part of a larger company (DC
Systems, Inc.) that had the hardware/software engineering expertise to develop
this product for us. It was initially built to meet our need for a faster and
cheaper rendering capability without having deal with the problems listed
above. We use it and it did solve our problems. We are now providing it to
others. Still working out pricing details however we anticipate entry level
price will be approximately $20,000 (5 486 66mhz system with 2.5 GB HD). For
more information call and details about the product call.

Hi Matt,
For other forum members following this thread, let me add a mini-review to
Matt's announcement. I saw a prototype of this machine at Jim Murphy's 3D
Digital Artist's Conference this week and the machine is truly impressive.
It is just like having five networked render slaves except that they are all
located in one sleek black box; pre-wired, pre-configured, and ready-to-go.
Matt and Chris were using it as a stand-alone workstation with four slaves
for their presentations and then they let the Matrox rep. plug in his
station and "saved his butt" by rendering a new presentation.
This looks like a great solution for shops needing a quick, plug and play
network rendering set up.

Hello Steve! Sorry I had to leave early Wed. Still waiting on Elvis to get home
<g>.
Sat around and reviewed everything we covered in your class, and started
thumbing through your book.
I must say, the book is FULL off great tips. Thanks for all your help. Well,
after the long weekend, we're going to begin increase of production so we can
ship en mass ASAP.
By the way, I really enjoyed meeting you and thank you for encouraging me.

It's not the quantity of people that show up, it's quality and how many
bring checks! 😉
Hi Chris,
I'm glad you liked the classes. Thanks.
You mean that you let Elvis out of your sight!?! GASP! I figured that someone
as dedicated to 3DS as yourself would stay with Elvis 24 hours a day. <G>
Good luck with production.
Steven
Steve,
Thanks for the help – Chris and I really enjoyed meeting with you at the
conference. I know that Chris picked up some very interesting pointers from
your class. <btw> You should see what we are doing with the Pentium based
"Render Jungle"!!! For preview work you can FORGET about turning off all those
options like ray tracing.
Also, with our "Greenhouse" software package we are able to monitor several
rendering jobs at the same time along with a separate 3D Studio modeling
session – all running under the MS Windows operating system. NEAT! – "ALT/TAB"
and your watching a rendering job "ALT/TAB" again and your back to making
models or writing messages on CSERVE. Matter-of-fact, I'm running about 200
frames in the background right now!!
Per request, I will call you Tuesday to arrainge shipment of one of our first
production units. We look forward to your review and I'll bet a Texas steak
dinner that you won't be able to part with the machine after your review is
done!!!
Best Regard's,
Matt Armstrong
