I HAD AN IMPORTANT TECH QUESTION DELETED BEFORE I RECEIVED AN ANSWER: I NEED TO KNOW: Using any version of the AAWindows player/dll — is it possible to display 640×480 flics in an 800×600 or 1024×768 environment? I want to play these flics in a Compel presentation, using a Diamond 24sx board. If it is possible, what drivers and/or settings do I need. PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS MESSAGE,AND REPLY IF POSSIBLE. THANKS.

Tom – no one is deleting your messages. The forum scroll rate is about a week, so if it's longer than that since you logged on, your message and replies would have scrolled off into the ether. However, the forum *does* have an automatic forward to cmail feature, so any replies you received should have showed up in your cmail box. Did you check? Failing both of the above, maybe nobody knows the answer to your question. In any case, I forwarded your message to Nik Grant at Autodesk.

Tom, What is your problem exactly? 640×480 .FLC's will just show up in a smaller window. There should be no problems whatsoever. I have compel and 640×480 .FLC's play just fine on a 1024×768 desktop. If you are meaning that you want to have the 640×480 .flc show up full screen then you will have problems. You will have to render to the resolution you want the animation played at. You won't be able to rescale on the fly. Hope this helps some. Dave Mennenoh

That IS the problem. At either 800×600 or higher, areas around the flc reflect or bleed parts of the flic, it is an obvious error. I have been in touch with Diamond and have gotten new 24sx drivers, and tried another version of the windows player, and neither is working. It is not Compel, or any program, because the same thing happens in teh Animation player and media player., This is on a destination machine for presentations with the Diamond 24sx card. Thanks if you have any suggestions.

Sorry if your message seemed deleted — I never saw it. (If you like, let me know when it was posted and I can check what happened.) Dave Mennenoh has pretty much answered your question. You can make and play flics at 640×480, 800×600, 1024×768. The area which is confusing is getting the graphics card to perform those resolutions. For the Windows player, you need to have your Windows driver set to the appropriate resolution at 256 colors. The player will play flics at the equivalent resolution full screen. If you have Windows at 800×600 and play at 640×480, expect a black boarder around the image when you go for full screen. Nik

Okay, now the plot thickens — I KNOW that at 256 colors the flics will work. I want to go to 16 bit, 16 million colors, so that single frame graphics in higher res can also be displayed in other segments of the presentation. I guess that will not work?

Playing a script with flic animations and single frames of images with higher color may not be possible with our player. Maybe someone will say Grasp will do it, or the Windows Media Player — I'll have to check this out. Nik

Thanks — what it really is is using a presentation tool like Compel, which has MCI calls to your player, and also can display high color graphics. Whatever info you have I will appreciate. Thanks again.
