#Cast vote for AAPro WIN

Here's another vote for a Windows version of Autodesk Animator Pro. It makes total sense to produce a Windows version. There are more and more 2D & 3D Windows-based animation packages coming out these days … plus when the migration begins to Windows 4.0, use of a DOS-based app will become even less attractive. Is it that Autodesk believes animation is better done outside of Windows? – Jolie Renee

Jolie, I agree. I would love to see AApro in Windows. Unfortunately, until Windows 4.0 arrives <g>, with its 32bitness, I get more speed from the DOS version. How about one better? Windows 4.0 version of 3DSTUDIO??. Imagine working in WIN 4.0 on a 586/90 with 3DS and ACAD side by side, you grab a bunch of entities from ACAD, drag-n-drop into 3DS where they are automatically converted to 3DS objects???? -Mike

>> until Windows 4.0 arrives <g>, with its 32bitness << Why wait? OS/2 has been 32 bit for a while now!! Cast my vote for a native OS/2 AAPro!! Multitasking, multithreading, with multi-millions of users. — James — MAP —

Mike, <<How about one better? Windows 4.0 version of 3DSTUDIO??. Imagine working in WIN 4.0 on a 586/90 with 3DS and ACAD side by side>> Yes, side by side….imagine all those SIMMs you'd need side by side, too! For me, I'd imagine Photoshop and 3DStudio working side by side…. 64mb RAM would about do it. PCs are working their way up there, though. And we'll be realizing these "fantasies" in another 2-3 years, I'd be willing to bet (and this spoken by a fairly impatient person…). I hope I can re-use my 4 8Mb SIMMs in the next PC that I get. – Jolie

Hi, >>I hope I can re-use my 4 8Mb SIMMs in the next PC that I get.<< Dont count on that one! SIMM incompatability from one motherboard/system generation to the next is another way they keep us shelling out money. Bill.

Jolie et all, Thanks for the wishlist item. This is certaintly not the first time we have heard this particular request. A windows version and 24 bit support are probably tied for number one in wishlist items for AAPRO. While I am not allowed to comment on future releases of software, I can say that is is wish list items such as these which drive the features we determine for future products and updates. -Brian

>> wish list items such as these which drive the features we determine for >> future products and updates. In that case, here's a little wishlist: – 24/32 bit animations – Allow objects to be kept as separate entities like Composer or Painter X2. – Incorporate full alpha support for compositing "cels" over "backgrounds" – Incorporate anti-aliasing to kill them jaggies! – Include the "best of" or features similar to those in Painter for "manual" illustration and painterly effects, Photoshop/styler for image retouching, Composer for image compositing and manipulation. – Incorporate SMPTE-like time code, (or at least start with frame 0 like 3DS) – Build in ADI support for frame-buffers, video controllers, printers, etc. (So that our 3DS-related hardware and drivers will work.) (… more later, as I think of them)

More wishlist: (for brian rudolph…) 1) Dope sheets that include cut and paste and other complete editing capabilities of animation clips for cycling and "stock" stuff 2) Audio support for tracking voice and sound cues. 3) 2D splines (a la Corel Draw!, etc…), and ability to scan pencil art into computer and turn into splines. 4) Big time file annotation capabilities. Keeping track of 2d and 3d animation is so hard without this!!!!! 5) channels and layers of alpha for sophisticated compsiting/layering effects 6) support for hardware like PAR, MAX, Abekas, film recorders, etc… 7) more to come… John Tissavary (LUNA cie, inc)

I second JT's list, and add some more. 3D DVE type motion, adding depth for 2d images when spun. spline based paths for objects with ease, etc. The ability to assign a mono .wav file to an object, and have it be represented in its "sound space" by where the object is on the screen. If the object is more left than right, then the sound plays louder to the left than the right. Scale could also be implemented, where the scale of the object could affect the volume. If you all really want some work, you could implement some sort of Dolby surround encoding. (for 3DS R5 too) an idiot proof scan-> spline autotracer. (supporting TWAIN) .AI/.CDW import/export sub-pixel positioning (like After Effects) and field rendering Onion skinning an NT version (multithreaded) would be nice an interface with toolbars, and a "most used" customizable toolbar that allows you to add features to it. (similar to AMI PRO-the word processor's toolbar selection) This would give you little icon's for most every function, and allow you to put them wherever you like. A great time saver. Possibly "roll-up"s if they fit the functions. Photoshop plug in support on individual animated objects. (so one actor can be, say "painted", while over an unaffected backdrop) A way to organize everything in project groups, and see them visually. (sounds can have labels) JNJ
