What is the best method for animating live video on an object? The video will be brought in via DPS TBC. I would like to map the live video on a specific area of a sphere that is already texture mapped. Thanks. James Franssen Imagination Station

Hi, Could you explain a little more, I am not sure I understand exactly what you are talking about. Are you talking about real "live" video, or digitized frames from a video source? If its digitized frames, maybe this might work (although I have never tried it before) : make a square spotlight with the digitized animation (.IFL, FLC, FLI, or JPG file) as the Projector image. Then setup the spotlight to shine onto the sphere where you want the video. Hope it helps, Brandon DesignTec

In addition to Brandon's suggestion, you could assign your sequentially-numbered captured-video tga files to texture 2 in your material. You could scale and place it anywhere over top of your #1 texture. If, however your material already uses 2 texture maps, you'd have to use Brandon's method or actually create a second mesh scaled just _slightly_ larger than the 1st.

James, Confusing question. You can rotoscope single frame images from a deck with timecode and the proper controller, but it really would not be live live. The only way I know of pulling off a real live deal is to map the portion of the object where you want the live video to be with BLACK (0,0,0), and render, to disk or to tape. Then you can play the video back, key off of the (0,0,0) to bring in the live material and be recording that to another deck at the same time. Careful what background you us here. It will take a minimum of two VTRS and some editing equipment to accomplish this. If it does not have to be truely live, then rotoscoping would be the faster/less expensive way to go. I have rotoscoped with only one deck before. It uses a bit more drive space with one deck, but if you are wanting to save the TGAs then you are gonna use up the space anyway. I am sure there are some other methods, but the above method works fine for me. Merlin G. Farmer Crystal Cave Animagix
