I don't have experience with scanners, but I want to buy a hand held or flatbed color scanner. I am hoping someone out there can give me advise or can recommend a scanner, from their experience. More important to tell me what scanner not to purchase. I am not trying to scan graphics or images for placement into glossy catalog, brochures or magazines, but the scanner I want should be able to output graphics image resolution for on screen presentations and I want to be able to output images through an inexpensive color printer. I was contemplating about purchasing Hewlett Packard ScanJet IICX Color Scanner for A.T. With 400/1600DPI, 24 Bit, with ScanJet IIC XFACE included, which sales for $888. Do I need to spend this much for what I want to do? What is ScanJet IIC XFACE? If you have any advise for me or have a scanner for sale. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Dennis: I use the Scanjet IIC and have been quite pleased. I would advise against the Microtek 600z but I don't think its still in production. IMHO, any scanner that requires me to jam yet another card into my computer has at least one strike against it. Bob

Bob, Thank you for the information on the Scanjet IIC flatbed scanner. 🙂 I will make sure I stay clear of the Micotek 600z scanner. I agree with you no extra cards, my mini tower can hold any more. Dennis

Hi Dennis; I have had good luck with UMAX UC630, it will hold up over the years. But from what I have seen, nothing beets the HP for absolute quality scanning! It just depends on if you want to save a few hundred bucks. I would get the HP.
