Anyone,
What year was "The Princess Bride" released ?
Am I correct in my recollection that this was the movie in which ILM first
demonstrated 2-D morphing effects ?
Need this info for an article I'm working on.

"The Princess Bride" came out in 1987, but it's not the movie that introduced
2D morphing. You're thinking of "Willow," an inferior George Lucas production
directed by Ron Howard and starring Val Kilmer. They used the morphing between
several animals (goat, lion, ostrich, etc.) to reveal a witch (or sorceress,
can't recall). "Willow" came out in 1988.

Bingo ! Thanks, those are exactly the sequences I was thinking of. Willow it
is, gee whiz — not The Princess Bride — strange how a fuzzy memory exchanges
details like that. Some young Doctoral candidate needs to write a scholarly and
comprhensive history of computer generated special effects so it's all in a
tidy referance for us someday.

Your fuzzy memory should be forgiven in this case: Princess Bride was a MUCH
better movie than Willow. Ron Howard should have stuck to being a child actor
(i.e. retired by now <G>).
