Hi, I was just reading through my reference manual for 3DS R2 and I am interested in developing IPAS programs. I am in the dark as to what I need to get started. Could you tell me exactly what environment is required (software, hardware) and also let me know if it is possible to get sample source code from the sample applications in the manual and the programmers reference materials. I plan on doing some IPAS programs as part of a large software project in a course I am taking at the University of Western Ontario. Therefore time is at a premium. Thanks in advance.

Mark, << Hi, I was just reading through my reference manual for 3DS R2 and I am interested in developing IPAS programs. I am in the dark as to what I need to get started. >> IPAS2 was rather limiting in it's possibilities and required a MultiMedia Developer Status with Autodesk. IPAS3 was extended and anyone could purchase it. IPAS4 is extending IPAS3 and allowing you even more access to the interior data structures and resources. << Could you tell me exactly what environment is required (software, hardware) and also let me know if it is possible to get sample source code from the sample applications in the manual and the programmers reference materials. >> Download IPAS21.zip from the Software Dev Kit section for IPAS2 insights. Search the Software Dev Kit section of the library with a keyword of IPAS3. You'll see a readme, sample code from the IPAS3 SDK example routines uploaded by developers. Note the file called IPAS3.txt. These were Gary's lecture notes from an IPAS lecture at the Autodesk University last year. General comments… Upgrade 3DS from R2 to R4 and purchase IPAS4 when it get's released. If time is critical, order IPAS3 today and upgrade your R2 to R3. jonas[adesk]
