It's called a SunRize 516 card and is available today. It's a nice product (I
have one).

No kidding; I own it too. 😎 As a a matter of fact I'm writing an
article on it for a new magazine called, "Computer Video." I was talking
about including the capability in a future Amiga model, so it would be
supported by more software developers. If it's built into the machine,
then it's likely that most, if not all, software will support it.

Note that the AD516's hardware is not nearly as versatile as the Amiga's.
For example, altering the playback rate won't change the pitch of the
sound; you only have a certain number of selectable playback rates; and
you can only use one playback rate at a time. (Or at least that's my
experience with the thing. I blew $1200 on one and have yet to make much
use of it — my EVO-9700 doesn't support external control or have a time
code out.)
AD516 may be just dandy for video applications, but I don't think it would
be any good for games ("most, if not all, software" <g>) even if they did
support it. So I don't think it's a viable replacement for an audio
chipset upgrade.
But if the Amiga musicians can do as good as they do with the current
four-channel, 8-bit sound…just think of what it would be like with
16-bit, 8- or 16- or even 32-channel — maybe even MIDI emulation!
Symphony tickets, anyone? 😉
BTW, on some specs for AAA that I saw in Playfield! a while back (can't
vouch for their accuracy), 64kHz playback was mentioned.

Huh? I think there's some confusion here. Or maybe you meant to leave
your message to Paul. You're taking the position I took with Paul and are
trying to use the same position against me. 😎
Basically, I said that any new Amiga should have an audio chipset
upgrade. Paul said it wasn't necessary because the AD516 could be used
instead. I responded that the AD516 was not a replacement for an Amiga
internal audio upgrade.
That's why I'm confused that your message said the AD516 is not a
viable replacement for an audio chipset upgrade because that's exactly
what I had said to Paul. 😎
BTW, I have an AD516 and I've never used it for video. I use it
strictly for audio recording, such as demo tapes and the like. I use it
along the lines of Turtle Beach's 56K on the PC or Digidesign's Pro Tools
on the Mac.

Hey, let me jump in and confuse things a little. I run a Turtle Beach 56k.
When I inquired about the 516 with Sunrize, they scared me off. I use the 56k
for video. Mostly to edit voice overs and edit/loop music. Sunrize
communicated to me that the best/most accurate you could get was 1 "frame" or I
guess 1/30 second, which isn't good enough. What's been your experience with
the 516 for making clean, ACCURATE music edits?

I don't use the AD516 for video, so my editing is different than yours.
I use it strictly in a Multitrack/MIDI music studio to sync analog sounds
(guitars, vocals, etc.) with virtual MIDI tracks. For my purposes, the
editing has been great. I've done some very tight and accurate insert
editing.
BTW, the new Studio 16 V3.0 has a much improved cue list. It's a
graphical interface where you drag and drop your cues on a time line. It's
supposed to make video editing much easier.

I have had no problems with music edits using the Sunrize board or
Studio16. None of my edits needed to be sample accurate, so frame accurate
was sufficient.
When I need sample accurate editing I use MIDISampleWrench, which reads
and writes a number of different file formats. My biggest problem at the
moment is using virtual memory so I can edit song-length files. My
accellerator uses the EC processor, so VM is a bit tricky. I am going to
address this shortcoming very shortly!
