Graphics and Monitors

All, I have some confusions about the Amiga's graphics and video output capabilities. The following lists those points of confusion. Could someone please clarify or give me a good reference source. 1. What kind of video output does the Amiga compare to in reference to say PC terms such as EGA, VGA or SVGA. I'm currently running a C= 1084S. 2. Is it worth buying a multi-sync monitor and flicker-fixer? Does the monitor have to be non-interlace? My system is an A2000HD with GVP 68030 accelerator, ECS chip set, and running MagicWB. 3. Whats the deal with paint programs and such? If the Amiga can display HAM with 4096 colors and animations of the same sort (e.g. Juggler), why do the paint type applications only allow you to use 64, 32 or even less colors especially when resolution goes up (640×400 as opposed to 320×200)? 4. How come workbench background can only display 16 colors at most? 5. When would you display 1280×400 and why is it not 1280×800? 6. What is a bit-plane?
