Hi, Are the DWG's 2D floor plans or are they 3D surface/solid models? We specialize in architectural modelling and animation and always build our architectural models in AutoCAD and DXF them to 3DS to animate. We have had relatively good success in exporting from AutoCAD to 3DS, so if you could explain a little more, maybe we can help. Thanks, Brandon DesignTec

Hi Brandon, The AutoCad drawings we receive are 2D floorplans DWG-format. I think this causes the problems. We converted them with AUTOCAD to DXF and even tried this layer by layer, but still everything is overlapping. Theo

OK, if you have AutoCAD, try the following, if not, ask your client if they can: 1. take the dwg and erase everything except the outline of the walls. 2. trim up all the intersections and make sure that all lines that touch are endpoint_to_endpoint. 3. join all the connecting lines by making them Autocad polylines, which has the effect of making all the wall lines a single entity. (so that when you bring the dxf into the Shaper, the lines will already be a proper polygon ready for lofting, which eliminates the problem of self_intersecting vertices.) I hope this helps (and makes sense<g>). Usually, since we use AutoCAD daily for other purposes, we prefer to work from dimensioned prints rather than digital cad files from the client, so we can build walls, shapes, etc. the way we want them, rather than being locked into using something the client created. If you have any more questions, 'just holler'(we're down south<g>). Brandon DesignTec

Brandon, Thanx, i tried it, but the outside of the building give me the most problems tons of windows and stuff which causes the problems. And the architec asks a hughe amount of money to do anything. But i keep on trying. THANX AGAIN CIAO Theo
