most virus checkers provide "nifty" graphical displays to reassure the
novice user as to what is going on during the check. It's all psychological.
Personally, I'd prefer a list of all virii checked for, but apparently that
isn't what sells VC's.
The virus checker we use has no graphics at all, apart from the sort of
"propellor effect" done by cycling through the characters / – \ | on the
command line. I've swapped the SCSI for an IDE CD now, but while I had the
problem with the virus checker I could run Wordperfect for Windows on the PC
complete with multiple fonts, WYSIWYG and loads of buttons without any
problems.

Peter,
that's curious. I wonder what kinds of data structures the programmer has
loaded into memory? Or even if he has any. I've seen some just go out and
grab a chunk of memory for no good reason at all, even on our machine.
