#AmiTCP applications

I've read a few messages of late that mention packages like AirMail, NNTP,
Thor, and ThorTCP.
I apologize in advance if this has been covered before, but is it correct that
these are packages that can be used with AmiTCP and CI$'s PPP connection to
provide different Internet features?
If so, could someone point me to a FAQ file or somesuch that explains these,
and maybe even point to their locations via FTP (I have _that_ one working!)

I was just about to ask the same question myself. I've been doing pretty good
with AMoasic and the webs but I just downloaded THOR to see how that works with
the USENETS. So far I got as far as decompressing it and starting it up. It
looks great but the instructions may as well be in a foriegn language, I don't
have a clue as how to get it to do anything. I suppose I need to figure out how
to set it up (Configure it??) The intructions talk about conferences and
packets and things.
I'll add this line before my signature to counter yours 🙂 Nice to see another
pipe band member.

I sat at the same place as you are at for a couple of weeks until I Dl'd
Thor TCP from their Web page and read the docs. Thor Tcp is not a replacement
for AmiTCP. What it does is, lets you forget all the packets crap in the Docs.
It gives you an (Ami)TCP option in config Thor. Once I got past that point,
working through the rest was a snap.
Once you get it up and running. You set your buisness in the Thor Program
and connect Thor takes care of the information exchange. One problem is that
CIS does not support a POP mail client so Thor won't do you much good for
e-mail.

both Thor and ThorTCP are required to make the thing work

You know, I see more & more examples of paradigms in action every day… Before
I joined the Phoenix Scottish, I only occasionally noticed Pipe Bands, if at
all, and _never_ met anyone from one. Now, I run into people all the time! I
must be more aware of the whole 'scene' now.
BTW, there are some good PB pages on the WWW, I suppose you've found some. We
don't have a page for PSPB… yet ;).

I've been using Thor TCP too and will grant you that the instructions are not
so great. However, I have been getting my problems worked out little by little
sending EMail questions to Kjell Irgens, one of the Thor developers at
kjelli@stud.cs.uit.no. I have received helpful answers either the same day or
the next day.
I have been accessing my Usenet news groups and have been able to send replies.
I still have a few bugs to get worked out, but it seems like a great app.

In archive of newsgroups comp.answers and news.answers are located FAQs on all
Amiga net related subjects.
Each of these areas will lead you to others.
