Steve, I thought of your problem when writing the manual. The mode selection is very important to BJ/BJC users. That's why it's mentioned several times in the manual. However, I decided not to describe the modes during the installation chapter of the software. As each printer has it's special features, the installation chapter would get real big and confusing. Nobody would read it. That's why I decided to make two approaches: 1. The use should look into the manual index for his printer. Often printers with problems have are mentioned in the index. Look up the suggested pages. (this approach is described twice early in the manual). 2. The installation chapter only describes how to install the software and get your printer running. Fine-tuning is something you can do later when reading the chapter that covers your used driver. As said in the installation chapter, 99% of all users should be able to print directly after installation. There are only very view cases where users can increase output speed and quality by altering the settings. The mode selection of the BJ/BJC is one of these cases. Note that each driver chapter does start with the important features of the driver. Often that is all you need to read to get the basic info about the driver. In my oppinion, reading all the details later, don't make much sense. I rather use the manual as a quick look-up. You see, it's not easy to improve the manual. But as said, I'm realy very very interested in getting hints on how to improve it and make it easier to read.
