I'll agree iwth buying the 3.1 rom and disks but the manuals are not worth it. Keep your 2.04 manual it's much better. The 3.1 manual doesn't explain anything. It's terrible really sad. I bought 3.1 when it first came out. It was worth the 175 dollars.

I have to defend the 3.1 manual a little – it is "bad" because C= never wrote one. It is translated from German I believe. Something is better than nothing. At least they tried to make an English manual for us. VT made it themselves, they had only the software, not the rights to any docs or anything. I'll bet the German manual is better. They probably just gave you enough to get you going. as an upgrade from 2.0, 3.1 is a "kill for it".

Ian, I agree. The 3.1 manual in German is – so to say – a regular one. There are three booklets (DOS, Workbench and AREXX) which are all in all identical to the 2.04/2.1 manuals with only the additions and changes for 3.1. I don't know what you get in the US. The German 3.1 manuals are not really different to all the manuals I got since 1.2 🙂 . Joachim Sondermann-Bieker on Amiga AutoPilot 1.80 from Cologne, Germany

Apparently the English manuals aren't very good. They are not complete, but you can't expect better since VillageTronic only made AmigaDOS 3.1 available to us as sort of a favor… Everyone wanted it and so they started making it. But despite their high price, I don't think they really ever wanted to make it, it isn't their job or interest as far as I know, C= should have released it earlier, and when they went under, turned ALL the translations over to VT so they could actually update the English manual easily. I think they only had rights to the German manual, they had to make up the other manuals.
