#New PAR, when?
6 messages in this thread
Hi,
While I was preparing my list of wants and needs for Santa I heard that
a new PAR is scheduled for '95 and that it would be better if I waited ….
does anyone know of the details?
Also I heard that Razor Pro was a good nonlinear editor for working with
the PAR. Are there other products in that arena I should learn about?
Thanks for your help, and the happiest season's wishes to all

Most companies that make video products usually announce them at NAB, which is
usually around March/April. If DPS has anything new coming they will probably
show it there. Other than a new, improved PAR there are other products that may
be shown there that may interest 3DS users. NewTek may be announcing a PC
Toaster/Flyer system.
The PAR has been around for two years on the Amiga/PC and technology has
improved quite a bit since then.
One thing I would recommend is not waiting for something new to come around the
corner. If you can make money with the PAR now, buy it. If DPS does announce a
new PAR at NAB it will still be 5-6 months away. I just bought a PAR last week,
partly because the money had to be spent by the end of the year. I need the PAR
now, I can't wait a couple of months for something better to appear.
Happy New Year Tim,
Thanks for your reply (ref: new par). If I had a contract in hand I am
sure I would have your view point. But for now I am slowly building up the
capability and March or April '95 is okay for me. I hoped someone will comments
about the purported new features.
I was told by a vendor that the new PAR would allow SCSI 2 interface and
be able to handle more than 2 hard drives. If prices for hard drives drop at
the same rate as this year, that could mean a 8.5 GB drive should cost about
$1-1.2 K in Nov '95. Hence a 2GB drive in April with the new PAR would allow
lots of room for growth.
I did not find anyone who had used Razor Pro, so I still do not know
much more than the flyers that I have read.
Thanks again,
jhg
John –
I currently have and am using RazorPro. Can I help you by answering a question?
I have used RazorPro to edit PAR .ani files in their native format (with the
PAR chip upgrade), and am very impressed. I will be demonstrating the software
in January in Southern California at my next 3D Studio User's group meeting..
Will you be down this way?
Regards,
Bob

I have a PAR and was thinking of getting Adobe Premiere or RazorPro. I know
Premiere doesn't support the PAR at this point. How is the RazorPro support?
Can you edit the .ani files and then dump a production to tape? With sound?
Hi Robert,
I just got RazorPro and only have had time to run the installation. I
plan to buy a PAR but have heard that the next version will allow more hard
drives and be SCSI II, thus I have been holding off until I can sort out the
information.
In the mean time I would like to use RazorPro to present single (still)
file images <24 bit>. I know this is over-kill for the products capabilities .
. . but I want to deduct my major software expenses in FY94, and hence got
RazorPro before PAR.
The little bit of time I tried runing serial single files I did not get
an image to display, just a very fast flash of light. That suggested to me that
I needed to figure out how to have the single file display for 10 or 20 seconds
. . . which I have not yet done.
I wish I could attend the User's group meetings, both for the knowledge
edge and the weather (plus I hear the beaches can be inspirational) but
unfortunately it is difficult from Dayton Ohio <g>.
Thanks, jhg
