Contact Autodesk. I did the same. The result was that they told me to buy a new Computer – because also Autodesk didn't know why this occurs with some configurations.

I have found, since I have only 8 megs of RAM, that if you combine many objects into one it will render wiht out giving you an invalid normal array. The ' invalid normal array ' message usually appears when your program has to keep writing to the swap file, which in turn means that you do not have enough memory. with 8 meg I must make sure that I have only two objects to render, but I can combine countless objects together to make just one object. When rendering, look at the swap file data after each render to see how much is being written. You may find that after rendering the same object, that worked fine the first or second time, now gives you an invalid normal array. You have tp exit and restart the program to get rid of the swap count. I do not know why you have to do this but it is the only way that i know how to purge the swap file. Hope this helps.

Stephen, << The ' invalid normal array ' message usually appears when your program has to keep writing to the swap file, which in turn means that you do not have enough memory. with 8 meg I must make sure that I have only two objects to render, but I can combine countless objects together to make just one object. >> Actually invalid normal array means that you or something else modified the 3ds.exe which should never be done except with Autodesk written patches. If you didn't modify the exe search your HD for a virus that might have modified the file, if that doesn't help then reinstall 3DS from the ORIGINAL MASTER DISKS. If that still doesn't help get a new set of disks from your Autodesk dealer. Mark
