thx's dave: do you know if there are additional mapping options beyond planar, cyclindrical and spherical ? i'm looking for some type of mapping technique that allows you to form your texture around a target mesh without the restrictioons of the other options. frank

A good technique for making rocks is to box map a cube with a tiling rock texture then fractilize the cube. Instant rock or meteorite with seamless maps! (Glenn Melenhorst showed me that trick, btw).

Ernie, >> Ahh… How do you go about fractilizing the cube? << I'd use fract.pxp which comes with Silicon Garden by the Yost Group. There's probably other ways of doing it with and without plug-ins. Displace would probably work and allow interactivity too. Another way would be to select vertices and then tessalate the cube. Then invert the selection and move the new vertices outward. Repeat until you roughened it up to your satisfaction.
