#Field Order ??

I've rendered a little 75 frame animation of the year (1995) approaching the viewer from screen right to screen left (ie. it gets closer to the camera – passess in front and goes over your left shoulder ). I rendered to fields and played back on the PAR … and it "wickedly" jittery. My object is going from right to left (and off screen) and by the end of the animation its moving by the camera rather quickly ( because its gotten closer ). I noticed in the PAR that the left field is Field 1 (and the right is Field 2). Is this the correct field order ?? Shouldn't the field order go from right to left also ? Field Order is set to "1" in 3DS.SET … and according to the manuals – this is the correct setting in virtually every instance ?!! Any words of wisdom ? All help is appreciated ! T.I.A. Gary 🙂

Gary, try switching the field order in the PAR software (under PREFS/IMPORT:ORDER=)and re-compiling your animation to the PAR. The DPS fellows' field names (1, and 2) differ from the Yost Group's (0, and 1), so 3DS's default field order of 1 actually syncs with DPS's field order of 2, get it? Try this and let me know if it works… -Alan

Alan- I re-rendered the sequence after changing the 3ds.set field order setting to "0"…now it plays smooooooooth. <BG> I suspect that your suggestion of changing the PAR settings is a better long term solution than what I did. It'll have to wait 'til my project is over … I don't want to have to re-re-re-render stuff I've renderd already. But, Thank you very much for your tip … I would have never know that with the PAR. <G> Gary 🙂

If you would have cahnged the PAR settings, Gary, you wouldn't have had to re-render anything!<g> There's something nice about 60 motion calculations per second, eh? Have fun, -Alan

Alan- >> If you would have cahnged the PAR settings, Gary, you wouldn't have had to re-render anything!<g> << Even if they were rendered in the "improper" order ? Or is it that once you change the order in the PAR settings, the playback gets the correct order ??? I'm not quite sure that I understand. I think that by the time I started getting responses I had already started re-rendering the sequence. Thanks for the help !! C.U. Gary 🙂

What I was saying, Gary, was that if you originally rendered your files using 3DS's default field order (1), a simple change of the PAR's field order switch to 2 would have allowed you to re-compile your animations to the PAR without re-rendering them. There's no real "proper" or "improper" field order. It's just an issue of conventions and defaults. If you had rendered in 3DS's non-default field order (0), the PAR could have been switched to 1 and that would have worked as well. -Alan

3DS uses 0 and 1 PAR uses 1 and 2 respectively. Matching pairs are 3DS: 0 and PAR: 1 (or) 3DS: 1 and PAR: 2 — James — Choreo Motion —
