I've been running 3DS r3 and Ani Pro on the same machine as Win 3.1 . I would enter the software from the dos prompt before Windows loaded. I want to get Win'95 and would like to know if there is a way to run my two favorite and only DOS applications. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ed…

Ed, We got Win 95 for the regular office PCs on Thursday, the release day. We tested on 8 different PCs with a wide variety of hardware. To date only 1 out the 8 PCs we installed it on worked. The other 7 went back to Windows for Workgroups. You might want to wait till the bugs are worked out. Microsoft acknowledges some bugs so we are going to wait for Win 95.1 Meanwhile the geekheads running 3D Studio here went straight to Win NT, did not pass go, and did not collect $200. I felt it was more important to get a handle on NT for the upcoming MAX version. Already we love NT. Much easier then Novell. The other thing we fould was because we had a lot of high-end hardware and software for 3DS such as the PAR board and the TBC/IV capture board, Turtle Beach Monterey soundcard with its special drivers, Razor Pro and Adobe Premiere for editing and composition, and Authorware Pro for CD-ROM production, there was no way that Win 95 would work. Windows for Workgroups had to stay in place. I couldn't mess with Win 95 and hoped everything worked correctly. Those items were written for Windows 3.1. I think the answer probably is no for 3DS since it uses a Phar-lap memory extender. The '95 memory management is different and won't recognize the Phar-lap. Animator Pro I don't know. Think about getting NT, I think you will be happier in the long run. Besides, Microsoft is working on the new interface for NT that will be like Win'95. The 2 big advantages to NT from the user point of view is access to multi-processor motherboards and OpenGL video support. Later.
