Hi I have been trying to get 3DS to work with an ATI GRaphics Pro (Mach 64). I have spent several hours on the phone with their tech support trying to get their drivers to work. No luck. "Display device did not initialize". Anyone know of how to make this work? I am using the latest drivers they have available and have gone through everything I know or can think of. Thanks, Will

Hey Will, The Vibrant drivers work perfect, I have the same card. Don't fool with the ATI drivers, the're junk. I get 1280X1024, 16.7 mil colors from the ATI card rock steady, no flicker on a Mitsubishi 21" monitor. Download the new Vibrant drivers and the Antivesa routine. Select either the Mach 64 driver or the ATI Graphics Pro Turbo driver. Make all resolutions 16.7 million colors. Super! The Antivesa routine is necessary to eliminate the LONG wait (2 minuter or more) when you start 3ds. The 3DS queries the Vesa subroutines over 200 times for some strange reason. Antivesa eliminates that. Just run Antivesa before you start 3DS. Works like a champ! Send me a note if you're still having probs. Bye!

Oh, by the way, there some new ATI drivers in the ATI forum. As a side note to all of this, I bought ATI's for all the high-end PC's in the office because at the time they were the best thing. Now it appears Diamond has retaken the with the Viper Video and Stealth 64 Video. I'm holding out for dual Pentium 180's or P6's, Win NT, 3DS Max, and the OpenGL cards. Major change is on the horizon with OpenGL, things like realtime rendering on the fly, at least for previewing. Its gonna be great! Bye.

Mark, Antivesa? Is that why it takes so long to boot? I thought that 3DS just took a long time to check my MAP-Paths. I'll download it and use it. I also confirm the Vibrant drivers. I run at 16.7m and 1024×768 and 1280×1024. Great card INMO. -Matt (Active Media Graphics) Y 50 /g fM/

MARK… Saw your comments re:ATI cards. Where are the "newer?" Vibrant drivers and antivesa routines located for downloading? I agree with many that ATI makes great cards… thanks, kev

The Vibrant driver is under the 3D Studio library and the Antivesa is under the hardware lib. Have fun!

Mark…Thanks for the fast reply! Duh!…found the antivesa file after sending message to you…but not sure how to load TSR (don't use TSR's very often) and no info in .TXT file. Can U help me out? Thanks, again….it's great these forums even exist! Kev

Sure! What you want to do is just run antivesa.com. What I did was copy all three files, antivesa.com, .asm,.txt, to the 3ds4 sub directory. Then just do: CD\3DS4 <enter> ANTIVESA <enter> 3DS4 and thats it! I made a boot disk that just starts dos, assigns a path, cd\3ds4, runs antivesa, and starts 3ds4. Have fun!

Mark… I added vibrant files and antivesa (the latter in my bat file for 3DS start). I got a wierd error message in ATI DOS "window" about VESA not present,…bla, bla, bla. OK. So I deleted antivesa from .bat file. My card's a 2M, but I find it hard to believe there's a big diff between the 2 & 4M cards. Any ideas? Not sure if the VIB drivers did anything or not, that's hard to tell. Thanks…Kev

Kevin, Are you running under any version of windows? I didn't understand the DOS window part. Did you reconfig the "3ds vibcfg"? Should be ATI Mach 64 for all displays. Since you have 2M, try 640×480 @ 16.7 mill. colors. And, no, there isn't any difference in the cards except mem. Drop me a note!

Mark, I placed an antivesa statement into my .bat file used for 3DS startup. All I got was a weird message that VESA is not present, bla, bla, bla, on an ATI DOSlike "window". So, I removed statement. That's where it stands. What gives? I assume all these cards are PCI-based, if that even means anything. As for the VIB drivers, hard to tell if they did or do anything (they DO work, though). Whenever I install new drivers, I always expect to see the Aurora Borialis or something close. Never happens! Darn. Thanks…Kev.
