#W32s1.25a hangs AStudio

Last week I installed Netscape on my PC. While installing, I was informed by
the Netscape Installer, that I did not have the most recent version of W32 for
Windows for Workgroups, and that I could download it from Microsoft which I
did. The file I pulled from MS was PW118.exe which extracted into a bunch of
files one of which was called w32s125.exe dated 5/18/95 and was 1.21MB. I first
backed up my current version of windows to another drive, and then proceded
with the installation of Win32s 1.25a in my currently active windows directory.
Now I cannot run Autodesk's Animator Studio, Adobe Premiere or Elastic Reality
without a fatal hang (no warning or GPF, just frozen screen). I suspected since
all those apps employ the media Player, this might be the problem. When I run
the Media Player from windows, I get the same result – frozen screen. When I
switch over to my backed up version of windows, the problem is gone. What's
going on?

not knowing everything that has been installed, it's hard to pinpoint exactly
which diles are causing the problem. BUT, when something like this happens, i
usually contact the folks of the program being installed. have you contacted
the folks at Netscape to ask if they've run into this before? (if after
installing what they require, other programs go haywire).

Yeah. The guys at NetScape feel fairly comfortable with the fact that it's not
their problem, since I'm up and running with _their_ product. I've posted this
same message on the Microsoft, Adobe, and Avid forums, just in case someone
else is running into similar problems. I don't think it's really a problem with
ANY of these products, (and though I hate to admit it, probabally not even a
problem with NetScape). I think the real trouble happened when installing the
new W32s1.25a, and suspect I need a new Media Player or some other new little
piece of Voodoo code. I'm simply unaware of what exactly I seem to be missing.
I have identified the new *crash feature* with any program that employs media
player, but somehow that hasn't made me fee any better. :p Thanks for your
help, any bright ideas would be appreciated.

<sigh> i hate this %$#@. no one wants to be accountable. all apps work, except
with you install netscape and netscape says it isn't their problem. dandy.

have any other apps caused this problem too? (other accessories apps like sound
recorder, write and others?) also, any other windows apps have problems once
install happens? thing is, we get a lot of problems just because of the various
support libraries some programs require. it may be possible that netscape is
depending on certain key support files which is has installed over other
support files needed by other applications.

well, i'll say one thing right off… no web browser is worth having 4
applications down at a time. <gggg> also, if 4 apps work before install and one
app causes them all to crash… i think its pretty obvious who's problem it is.
regardless of what they say. <g>
few things to try… can Netscape provide you with a list of all files they are
installing, as well as all modifications made to existing files including
system files?

Download the latest drivers from your video card vendor – this should fix the
problem.
