#Animator Studio Lockup

We just loaded up Animator Studio on the Micron P90 (64Mb/DS64PCI4MbVRAM) – and
it loses the mouse every time it starts. Both Animator Studio and the Player
were crashing but good with GPFs until I stripped out MS Access, which seemed
to be playing merry heck with most Windows stuff, and now everything is back to
normal except that AS locks up the mouse until I exit and restart windoze. I'm
running logitech v6.3 drivers. Where do I start looking for the problem?

may i humbly suggest (as this is a new bug for me never before reported in
months of support) that you contact Logitec if the mouse was also having
problems using Access (we also use Access here and have never had mouse
problems using MS mouse. you can also try reconfiguring for VGA mode to see if
its a graphics driver-related problem.

Thanks for the answer. I am running standard VGA; I switched down to that
first. Also, this Micron P90 is one of those machines which has problems
running Windows with the DOS mouse drivers installed, but I had forgotten that.
We're only running the standard MS logitech mouse driver, lmouse. The logitech
drivers are not installed. Switching over to a 2-button MS mouse borrowed from
one of the other stations gave us exactly the same result. The problem with MS
Access was unrelated to mouse installation (we think) – the various modules and
components of Access simply hosed Windows ruthlessly.
Thus, the problem persists: launch Animator Studio, and just before the final
status message comes up and the app opens, the cursor freezes and stays there
until we exit and restart windows. And it's input device and screen resolution
independent.

any other systems you can test AAS on to see if it is definitely AAS related?
i've installed in on hundreds upon hundreds of machines without this problem
and am really suspecting hardware. also, could you forward your autoexec.bat
and config.sys file?

Oh yes, it's hardware for sure! We tried it on the 486DX2-80 and it runs just
FINE, thank you, but I need it on MY graphics machine, not on Audrey's code
developer!
I tried all other possible rezes and color depths. None worked. I've got
nothing in StartUp, and nothing else active when I launch…
System files sent via regular mail. Thanks.

well, this one's definitely got me puzzled at this point. making space in the
support log. looots of space. <g>
i took a look at them… if all other apps work fine, i'm stumped. nothing
unusual here at all. diamond has had some notorious BIOS troubles, but these
were fixed with their latest driver. i can forward this on to Adesk internal
tech support. if i remember, didn't you say the machine was having trouble
running other windows apps as well? have you contacted the hardware
manufacturer about this? will try to find out what i can on my end.

Um, I couldn't figure out how to attach the files to a mail message.
No, since we wiped Access the machine's been good with everything. I do have a
little glitch with returning to Windows from a DOS shell (the screen goes a
little haywire) but it's never caused problems. Getting hardware tech support
from Diamond is problematical at best. If you've got new drivers for a DS64
PCI VRAM I'd love to have 'em.

hmmm…. i'm wondering then if you have any other graphics cards (maybe even
that one on the other machine… do a quick install, recongure Windows to use
it and see if we're getting a graphics driver conflict in memory. it's a
possibility.

understatement of the year. i have called and "waded" through their phone
menus, only to get a "leave your name and number and we'll get back to you in
the order the call was received" after a looooong hold. not good.

there are several folks here in the forum that know about the new BIOS driver
for Diamond. i don't know the location… but i could have sworn they have a
forum on CompuServe. 😉

No, no way to swap video cards. The code development machine's a VLB, the
server's 8-bit VGA, and this one's PCI. I'll try revised drivers, if I can
find 'em, and report back.
