#Hair?

I've seen small bits of conversation here off and on about a hair routine being
developed. Does anyone have any solid info regarding this?
thanks
-Kyle
Kyle,
uh, that might have been me. MetroLight has some old dusty code written by an
ex-employee as part of his masters thesis. It's really cool and not particle
systems based or image-processed. I think it's the best hair routine I've seen
and others agree.
At this point we have some engineers mulling over the code to see what can be
done. Hopefully it can be revitalized into something useful for the masses.
Martin,
is that the JuJu Shampoo hair from the Electronic Theatre in '93?
I remember that animation – it's some of the best hair I've ever seen!
if you guys really do something with it, let me know, OK?
thanks

yes, indeed. It is very impressive.

most certainly will 🙂

NOT particle-based? Howdudothat? Did he publish a paper that year?

I can't say how he did it, because I'm not exactly sure. Something to do with
springs. Anyway, if you want to do some research Rob Rosenbloom (ex Metrolight
code warrior) published his master thesis on this technique. Although, this is
public it won't go into algorithms specifically, I dont' think.

Interesting… I'll look around for the thesis. Thanks.

Hi, Kyle!
We came up with our own approach to hairs and may start
developing an IPAS after Halloween. If Martin's engineer will
port his version to 3DS, you may get two Hairs routins instead of none.

Alex,
sounds cool – I'd be very interested to see what you come up with.
thanks
-Kyle
We've been working on a hair routine to. The only problem is its a slow
development. My new programmer is trying too hold 2 job's and write the code
for hair. Hopefully it will be done around Christmas.

Mike,
thanks for the info – I'm looking forward to seeing what you've come up with.
will you be uploading any cool sample images soon?
thanks

Your welcome. I hope we will be able to soon.

Yes, yes! Another interested party in the Hair routine. And, while you're at
it (I'm SERIOUS here) could you make it addressable so we could do FUR as well
as hair? We would love to be able to do fur specific to different
animals…Labrador Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, Black Wolf, Sea Otter etc…
Thanks…we'll be watching this space…

Yes Mike this is what is planed. I don't wanted it limited to just hair.
Nice to hear you input any other ideas would be great.

Mike, Since you're looking for more suggestions, here's a few. You might know
about Fiber Factory for the toaster. Instead of just straight hair, wavy hair,
curly hair, hair blowing in the wind, have a whole routine that lets you style
the hair (like going to a barber). I'm sorry if all these suggestions seem a
little tricky, but once we finally have a 3DS hair routine, it seems like a
good idea to take the idea as far as it can go.
