#Virus on Organix Disk

Found a virus on the ORGNAIX disk from Digimation. My virus program labeled it
NEWVIRUS. I was told this was not the first report, and they sent me a new
disk the next day. If you get it, be sure to check the disk first!

I just went back and scanned all the disks I purchased from them at SIGGRAPH
and, low'n'behold, my OrganiX and both my Refraction Mapping disks are
infected. I checked them with McAfee VirusScan 95 and it found the ANTIEXE boot
sector virus on each disk (3 total).
This is _very_ not good.

I have also found the ANTIEXE virus on both of Digimation's Refraction Mapping
disks. The virus had not infected any of my hard disks.
You can detect and remove the virus by using the latest version of McAfee's
Viruscan program. It is available as shareware on CIS: GO MCAFEE.
The command to run it: scan /adn /clean (The "/adn" means "all network disks"
and the "/clean" tells the app to remove the virus when detected.)

Addendum:
The name of the McAfee file is:
scn-225e.zip
Also note that the recommended procedure is to make a clean (sterile), boot
floppy (on another, non-infected computer) with the system files and the
following McAfee files:
scan.exe, scan.dat, clean.dat, names.dat
Make sure the boot floppy is write protected, then boot from the floppy and run
the scan.exe from there. E.g. scan c: \adl \clean.
There is much more information about all this in the McAfee text files.

In this particular case, it rather looks quite opposite:
western company Digimation duplicating disks (supposedly) gets some virus,
which may hurt russian company's software sales. <g>

And again, you can easily find this simple (western) virus with
perfect anti-virus ViruScan program, written by russian algorithmists. <bg>.
Seriously, I was not aware that any Digimation disks got any virus.
I would think, it is not from us:
a. first, Russia is not the cleanest country in this sense, so everything there
is checked
and overchecked by several anti-virus programs.
b. second, a few people, who've got my master copy have never reported any
problems
(including Lee Steel and Greg Pyros).
c. third, if OrganiX got infected also, it really put a lot of suspicion on
duplicating facility
DavidA uses.

Refraction Mapping files are not archived, so you may avoid running
install.exe,
just copy process files.

is clearly of decandent Amerikansky origin.

Stealth_C virus. Can a virus be created unintentionally or are all of them
purposeful creations from cyber slime? It looks like Digimation has been
informed of the virus situation, hope they can clean things up.

..And it bears repeating: The Stealth_C scum-germ can REALLY screw up any
attempt to install NT (as well as any boot-resident virus, I'd imagine).
Running an anti-virus program should be SOP before trying to install NT, it
seems…

I believe they are all deliberately created. Most have "funny" little messages
which pop up to add insult to injury.
The Anti-Exe virus is interesting as it is a stealth virus which was designed
to evade detection by virus detection programs. The good news is that it was
poorly designed (insufficient beta testing?) and can be easily detected and
removed.

I have PC Tools installed. The virus program that comes with it is Central
Point Anti-Virus. Keep in mind that I don't have the recent virus definitions,
so there may have been something else besides the one that I found.
