I'm relying on you guys to hear what happens now that the vacation is over.

What's a Pinnacle Micro CD writer?
What does this CD writer plug into, and how many days does one lose setting it
up..do any of you know?
ps Jim I was going to mention you and Mrs. Jim play tennis and are on
the 3DS Tennis Team, but thought it might be Confidential.

I think this is the new internal version of old Pinnacle external model. It is
a SCSI based unit and with the right software it is not much of a problem to
get up and going. The older versions of the CD recorders were costly and they
needed a separate hard drive to record from so it really made the operation
quite expensive. Not true with the new ones, the CD recorders are around
$1200-$1500 now and you can record directly from your hard drive.

After we spoke I thought about what you said. I called Pinacle today
and it is $1300 for the internal and $1500 for the external like you say-both
with the SCSI adapter, cables etc.
I am wondering though if the Adaptec means
the current SCSI adapter must come out and if the new one might not be
compatable with this funky xi P-90 computer I purchased
last year.
Maybe we could do a San Diego User group on "installing a CD writer
and Adaptec SCSI adapter" …maybe you need some one-offs? R.

We've had one of these Pinnacle CD ROM recorders at our office for several
months of fairly constant use, and it's worked out well. It's not what I'd call
"industrial strength", but we usually run a few CD's off each day, and as long
as you aren't dragging it around town a lot and don't need advanced
connectivity features, etc, they're not too bad. And no, you don't need a
speacial SCSI controller; if you already have one, it should just plug right
in. We did discover the driver installation instructions in the manual were
wrong, but later found the correct instructions in the readme file on the
driver disk.

If the SCSI adaptor supports SCSI-2 then the chances are that it will work
with your current adaptor. Keep us in touch on your decisions.

You should give Corky a call and he may be of some help and maybe a good deal.
I know that he has both the internal and external in stock!

Hi Rachel,
This is one of the new breeds of affordable CD burners out now. It is a
SCSI device so you could (presumably) plug it into your existing SCSI chain.
Corky at Lightspeed has one set up and is going to let me borrow it for a
weekend to try out. I'm thinkin of backin up all my old client files from
Bornuilli to CD, and dumping the Colorado.
As these prices keep falling (this burner just dropped $300) it is becoming
a reasonable backup device, IMHO. I'll let you know how it goes, or give you
a call when I've hooked it up if you'd like.

I'll do that Rach! Also the good thing about external SCSI is you don't
have to open the box too hook it up and you can just unplug it if there is
a problem.

Ya, I'd like to stop by. Aren't you right on the beach? Sure has to be
great in this heat. Really like Laguna. Have you seen the view from Martin's
place?
