Russ,
You didn't say what to do about the ground or sky color so I used a value
half-way between the zenith and nadir for both. I left the squeeze values at
2. I had my standard calibration objects (red box, grean ball blue pyramid,
wite cylinder) in the center of the scene. Rendering just to th Toaster
display lookeed great (medium res, no AA soft-filter off).
Then I rendered 2 frames to a clip (the minimum size I believe), one frame toa
clip and also rendered one frame to a Framestore. Then I exited LW, went to
P/F loaded the Framestore, back to P/s and double clicked it. It loaded in DV2
and I still had the rendered buffer image in DV1. Doing a take from one to the
other I could tell no difference (aside from the slight luma leve difference
which is a known fault with my Toaster).
Then I went to P/F loaded the 2 frame clip to the P bin. I opented it's
control panel and it listed it as a still. I set the lenght to 30 secs and
played it. Voila – banding. Looks like pretty crummy dithering – like Dpaint
dither of a 16 color picture full screen gradient fill.
Oddly enough when I loaded the one frame clip, it showed it as a two fame clip
instead of a still. So I attemptedd to cut it to a still by closing the
sliders together, but ended up with Alcatraz Meditation #4.

Alcatraz Meditation #4.
Hmmmmmmmm!!!
Well I think you've proved my point. Smooth gradients and the Flyer (not the
Toaster, mind you) is bad news. Now if we can only get Chuck to believe it.
Thanks,
Russ
