Can you or the guys in tech tell me if this is possible:
Can I hook up a high capacity drive (magneto optical, etc.) to the Amiga SCSI
bus and transfer files between it and the drives on the Flyer bus – FA0, FB0,
FC0???
I've got an Exabyte 8505XL that I can't rely on to back up and restore 'every'
file without corrupts. I don't know whose fault that is, I'm just looking for
a way to backup and restore. I have an option to trade out the 8505XL for a MO
drive – if it will work.

I don't know. We don't try transferring clips out of the Flyer through the bus
to Amiga drives here. I have seen reports here of people using backup to Amiga
devices, but I can't speak from any experience.
I would try mounting the drive on the Flyer Bus, first.

Hi Barry,
According to Exabyte, 8505's ship with compression turned on. I am getting the
code necessary to turn them off with software, once and for all. If you get the
8500's, or find an old 8200, they don't have compression so they're not a
problem.
I'll post the decompression info here as soon as I get it.
Maybe it's something NewTek should incorporate in the backup.rexx, or just
create a short arexx script for Exabyte users.

Just got the 8505 tapes!!!. One turns Compression on and one turns it off. I
am suprised that I was getting pretty good results with it on.. but now I will
keep it off.
Have not don a full back up and restore with compression of yet.

Please keep us posted on the differences after running the "compression off"
tape.
It would be interesting to see the times for backing up the same project with,
and without compression turned on.
