#What is Sculptor IPAS?

I've seen a number of messages (and uploads) concerning this "Sculptor" IPAS,
but no description of exactly *what* it is? What is it, exactly?

Basically, it's a spline-based freeform modeling IPAS; it's based on creating
and then deforming primatives into the shapes you want. It has a lot of
deformation tools, several levels of control points for deformations (coarse,
fine, and grafts for very detailed work). It does export meshes w/lofted
mapping coords., and it's method of doing things is very analogous to 3ds's, so
it's been easy to pick up and work with. All in all, I really like it; it works
quickly and makes organics a snap. That's a 'nutshell' description of it.

PS. Of the two pictures, CLCKWORK.JPG is the better of the two; there are a few
lighting anomolies, but they're there on purpose.

Thanks for the info — I appreciate it!

Hello David,
Sculptor is a NURBs modeler inside 3D Studio. Release 1.0 has been in
beta since it was shown at SIGGRAPH. Sculptor should be ready to ship about a
week from this friday. A demo program will be available shortly.
The interface for Sculptor duplicates the screen menus, viewports and
keyboard shortcuts in 3D Studio and adds an icon bar down the left side of the
screen. Sculptor is a powerful modeling tool. It also includes two different
methods for optimizing the models which take advantage of the surface
mathmatics.
Keith.
Thanks, Keith.

John,
I realize this message thread has come and gone, but I was also interested in
Sculptor and you sounded rather knowledgable. Do you (or anyone else) know if
there's a demo version available? Perhaps something you could create an object
in but not save it?
There are many people looking for alternative modelers (particularly for
organics) but with a modeler, interface is everything. (IOW, I doubt I'd ever
buy a modeler without trying it first).
