#a2000 bbs for pcs?

I have an a-500 and an a-2000. I want to start a bbs using my a-2000. Just
answer one question please…. wil a pc be able to call in and upload/download,
send/receive email, and chat? Thanks, Mike M.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I have a 2000 and I call PC/MeSsyDOS based BBS's all the
time…however, only programs written to run in MeSsyDOS will run in
MeSsyDOS and same for other program/operating system combinations. In
other words, you could have a game program designed to run in MSDOS ZIP'd
and in your BBS Library, Joe User could log on and download it to his
MSDOS machine, unZIP it and play the game…provided his unZIP version was
compatible with the version of ZIP you used to compress it. AmigaDOS 2.1
(perhaps 2.04 but I don't remember) and up include CrossDOS capability to
read and write MSDOS formatted floppy disks in your Amiga floppy disk
drive(s), so conversion would be a snap.

I understand that an amiga can call a ms dos based pc running a bbs,
but can the opposite work as well: Can I run a BBS on my A-2000, and
have PC's call in? What about ANSI compatibility? Anyone out there
care to comment? Thanks, Mike M.

Yes thankfully, in the world of Data Communications, all computers
were created pretty much equal! Anyone with a PC will be able to dial
into your Amiga and access whatever may be on offer on your BBS.
(Whether you will choose to provide anything of interest to them is
another matter altogether!)
Oh, and don't worry about ANSI, it is by nature an international
standard that is supported across platforms. there may be some small,
niggling differences between what some people consider to be ANSI
support, for example some may support flashing text, others may not,
but yeah for an answer to your question, you have nothing to be
concerned about. If the person at the other end of the phone decided
to lie about what type of computer they were using, you would really
have no way of telling the difference!

Yes, all my pc users are running ANSI emulation (and most of the
Amiga users as well). Any decent Amiga BBS software supports ANSI
fully. Amigas also support RIP and all users can use it with their
terminal software from PC, Amiga or other hardware.
DLG, Excelsior!, CNet, and other Amiga BBS packages are highly
compatible with all callers on all platforms. Even the free BBS
software is, just not as many bells and whistles.

I just moved from Honolulu, and there were several Amiga based BBS's out
there that had IBM users…that's why some had IBM message and file areas.
ANSI compatibility is possible and just a matter of the software package
you use supporting it.

absolutely, I run a A2000 BBS and have about as many PC users as
Amiga users accessing all the services equally. They can use the QWK
mail packer with their BlueWave offline readers and respond, I get my
fidonet mail from a PC based board, and PC users freq files from me.
Like the rest of the internet, Fidonet software is transparent when
properly implemented.
Not only PC's but Mac's log on here too, one guy with an atari and one
with a Tandy trash80 running CP/M, another running Linux (UNIX variant).
