Kevin What will be the procedure for acquireing the modeler? pardon the naive question but I can't even get the people I got 3ds from to return a phone call! The last time we talked they didn't understand the relationship between me, him, the r4 patch and Autodesk so therefore neither do I! They also resell Wavefront and various SGI products, so you'd kinda expect more cooperation from people who've probably been at gun point more than once over pricey software issues for the SGI owners!! thanks, Gary (Blazing Saddles) Angles

The patch modeler will be sent out for free, to all registered users of 3ds4 I can't wait for it! Jason

Jason <<I can't wait for it!>> That's a good one! I want it, I want it! In combination with bones, the patch modeler will be cook'n! I hate waiting more than anything… grrrrrr. Jeffrey

Gary, As Jason said, the patch modeler will be sent out free to *registered* users. It will probably also be made available here and on Autodesk FTP site. Funny, we sell SGI & Wavefront (now Alias/Wavefront) – sure hope you weren't talking about us. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Kevin, I got wind of a new Plug-in coming down from SGI software programers, a very powerful 3-D Paint program. Do you know anything about this? Jeffrey

Jeffrey, Sorry, I don't have any info regarding this, although I know the SGI IPAS development kit is out. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Are you talking about Mesh-paint from Positron or something newer? -Peter

Peter, I had read a small article about SGI developers now working on some IPAS plug-ins for 3-DS. There was mention of a very high-end 3-D Paint routine with lots of very powerful features. Then, of course, the article disapeared. I'm curious to find out more about that routine and see what kind of routines come from those SGI developers. Two programs that I use that come from SGI developers are Elastic Reality and Pennello. I found them very dependable, accurate modification parameters and very elegant well organized interface. I know Minerva (ex SoftImage developers) have been working on 3DS Stuff, the only 3D Paint I have seen in MESHPAINT, but I wouldn't be surprised to see another enter the fray… -Peter
