I'm using an Epson Stylus Color 2 printer to print images generated by 3D
Studio. Being that the Epson is a 720×720 dpi printer, what is the best image
size to use (in pixels) if I want to print on a sheet that's 8.5×11 from
Photoshop. I know there's a formula for this kind of thing somewhere.

Don,
720dpi is basically 720 pixels (or dots) per inch. If you want an image that
is 3" square, render it at 3×720 by 3×720, or 2160×2160.

That's what I thought, but it can get confusing when dealing with printers that
claim a certain dpi, but use a cluster of dots to produce colors or shades of
gray, making their effective dpi a lot less. I remember printing an image at
around 1024×768 to get a 8.5×11 picture on paper, with very acceptable results.
I guess it all depends on the printer.
