#What's a ".dxr" file?

I'm trying to "capture" a .dxr file from a CDROM. I'm assuming the dxr file is
an animated avi-type file which demonstrates a program such as a spread- sheet
or dialog box being used, with the cursor moving, buttons being pushed, etc.
I would like to capture the dxr file and then convert it to an avi or qtw file
so I can synch sound to it and then convert it an .ani file and play it on my
PAR for NTSC output.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Alec,
A .DXR file is a protected Macromedia Director for Windows movie that is played
from a Director projector. You can load an unprotected .DIR into Director and
save it as an .AVI, but I don't know about a .DXR. Try posting this question
in the Macromedia forum…

guy who said that it is not possible to load a .dxr file from a CD.

Hi Alec,
Actually, protected Director movies are loaded from CDs all the time… if not,
there'd be a heckuva lot less CDs being made! <g> But the .DXR format is a
destination format — a final format, not an interim format that's converted
into other things. It has too much logic and timing information to be
decomposed into a simple animation stream.
Best bet would still be to contact the original author of that file or,
assuming you have permission, to do an animated screen capture.
(Hmm, one final thought — your initial post sorta gives the impression that
the content of this piece may be a screen capture in itself. If so, then
perhaps just capturing the spreadsheet in action yourself…?)
