#LIGHTING HELP NEEDED !

I GET HOT SPOTS IN MY ARCHITECTURAL ANIMATIONS AND CAN'T SEEM TO GET RID OF
THEM NO MATTER WHAT I DO. I'VE TRIED MOVING MY SPOT LIGHTS FAR AWAY FROM THE
OBJECTS AND INCREASING MY AMBIENT LIGHT TO 100 – TO NO AVAIL. ANY SUGGESTIONS,
ANYBODY ? I'M GETTING QUITE DESPERATE ! PLEASE REFERENCE FILE X_R1.ZIP FOR 3DS
PROJECT FILE AND TEXT. THANKS

Your hotspot may be caused by an omni light being too close to the object.
Ambient light should generally be kept to 10 or less and the ambient color of
the material (keep it quite dark) can also have a profound effect on material
hotspots.
I'm heading out of the office, so can't dl the prj file right now.

Hi Ted:
Thanks for the tip. I'll make the necessary adjustments in my lighting.
I really appreciate the help!
<<I'VE TRIED MOVING MY SPOT LIGHTS FAR AWAY FROM THE OBJECTS>>
This won't make any difference to the intensity of light cast on an object
unless attenuation is on. Just turn down the intensity of the light/
<<AND INCREASING MY AMBIENT LIGHT TO 100>>
Well that will surely kill any shadows but it won't reduce the hotspot problem.
Just reduce Ambient to 10 then reduce all the spotlights and others as well.
This will darken the scene and reduce the problem. More precisely you could
reduce the intensity of those spotlights causing the particular hotspots.

I really appreciate the "hot" tip. I'll make the necessary adjustments per your
advice. Thanks!
In addition to Ted's reply, check you shinny values in the material editor for
the materials in question. Many of the material which are called "matte" have
shinny values of 5 and 24. This can cause unanticipated hot spots as well. In
many cases you may want to knock those values all the way down, or even push
them both up. These low values can cause a very wide and broad "hot spot"

P.S. Avoid using all caps in your messages. All caps is called "computer
screaming"!

Thanks for the advise on eliminating hot spots. I'll make the necessary
adjustments in the material editor. Wow, I never thought of that! I'll avoid
using caps in the future. I WAS really frustrated with the hot spot problem,
and was SCREAMING inside. Appreciate the help guys!
