What is the best and fairly cheap way of transfering ones 3ds animations onto
video?
Pay a service bureau to dump your sequentially numbered .tga files to tape.
The great thing about having a PAR board or similar solution that enables
playback of video resolution 24 bit color animations off a hard drive in real
time is that the oppurtunity to review ones efforts easily improves the design
process. I found that other solutions such as single frame recording or service
bureaus inhibit the creative process a little. This is reference to "best" not
cheapest.

I have just purchased 3D Studio and they sold me a Mars 2 motion JPEG capture
board. I am told that as you render your animations it compresses them and
sends them to your standard vcr. You then play the animation out to your tv as
your record to tape. We checked around for over 2 months and found this to be
the easiest and cheapest way to go.

Im pleased to know that the mars 2 works well. I might recommend that my
students look into it. Ive got a PAR and am thinking about the PVR. Is your
message for me? I dont recall what I have sent that would result in your
response.

I recall sending this message in responce of I think a question of is there any
way to capture video without having to have a dedicated harddrive and at a
lower cost. If this was sent to you by mistake, then you can rest at ease that
you dont have any floating messages out there. Mars 2 is the best and cheapest
way for your students to go. If any of them are interested let me know. I can
send info.
