#3rd Dimension Tech work

Has anyone heard of a company called 3rd Dimension Technologies 800-865-8214?
They have an add in the Microtimes, headlined WORK FROM HOME! Computer
Graphics, 486 PC required, freelance.
I called, they have a plan to use a program called "3D Express" ($395) to
produce 20,000 wireframe models for a CD for which they will pay $200-700 per
each, but you have to go to some seminar to find out more. They said they have
offices in Manhattan Beach and Arcadia…. Smells of scam to me (gotta buy our
software, etc) But just curious…

They also have an ad every Sun in the L.A. times. Smells of yet another
sleazeball company trying to take advantage of our industry. Like they did to
the music industry ( pay to play). If they really wanted wireframe, they would
most certainly accept those created in 3D Studio <BG>.

Yes, I called them about a month ago (just curious, you understand<bg>) and I
also got the impression it was a sleazeball operation, fast-talking phone
salesman and all. Could be legit, I suppose, but after five minutes on the
phone with this guy (Who didn't seem to know what 3DS was) I wasn't willing to
find out.
Stephen,

Must be the same guy I talked to, kind of made me want to take a body guard to
the seminar. I don't think I will bother going now, but they have my address
"for more information" so if I disappear, you all know who to go after! 🙂
Just watch out for those time-share sales, Lydell!<g>

Alan, (et al…)

Exactly!
There were messages on the Internet in one of the comp.anim newgroups about
these guys (don't remember which one).
Bad News!

Thanks. I cancelled my appointment with them when they refused to let me talk
to anyone but the nasal-tone-voiced salesman. Said they had worked out the
company plan so that the owner would never be contacted and if I had any
questions I would have to go to the seminar on Sepulveda Blvd. or Arcadia (the
first is near LAX). I don't deal well with secrecy, if someone has nothing to
hide, they won't.
