Hello all! I am having trouble using the composite video output of the
Amiga with Video Equip. I get a very ghosty looking color picture. Please
help me! What am I doing wrong? I am using 75 Ohm Coax. If I even take the
Amiga output (Composite) directly to the Composite input of the Amiga 1080
Monitor I get the bad ghosting effect! Makes the picture look VERY VERY
blury! But with the RGB outputs. Its as sharp as a razor. what gives?
Look for a program in the DLs here called SETLACE (or just LACE), that will
set interlace mode. The majority of good video equipment just can't handle
the non interlaced screen. When you find this one, just run it before
doing anything you want to record, and it should help a lot.

Yes, definitely use SETLACE or LACE (LACE is easier to use, but I am
biased!) Also, the composite output of the Amiga is pretty bad, as you can
see when you connect it directly to the monitor. If you are serious, get
yourself an RGB to composite encoder; a good one will be >$500. The Amiga
uses the Motorola 1377 encoder chip, which I have used to good effect. For
some reason their circuit sucks. One of these days I'll poke around inside
and see if I can't fix it.
i don't think the composite output sucks. i've used it with a commodore
composite monitor (the one for the 64, i forget the model number) and it
worked just swell. works great going through a VCR-as-modulator to a color
tv, too. and the VCR records the picture just dandy. no setlace. but you
do need setlace for professional video stuff. home VCRs don't really care,

The composite output definitely sucks (in comparison to the rgb output).
The composite chroma is too hot, there is a matrix behind the image and
color rendition is not accurate. I just recorded the rgb output through an
encoder onto one-inch tape and the image was spectacular.

used came ( nearly) straight off the data sheet app note. Frank Raffaeli (
Nova Com) tells me that they left out necessary filters and that the delay line
is the wrong delay. RS-170A is an expensive spec to generate.
Do you think there would be a market for a good fairly inexpensive encoder
for the amiga?
