Well, only two comments.
1) The last review of MII that I read said that it has a utillity called
"decoder"?, or something like that designed to allow installation of EA
products on hard disk. 2) I just bought D music. In it there was a card
offering an _unprotected_ (not just a backup) version for a $20.00 fee.
One way or another, I think you will end up with what you want. Yes, I do
agree that cpy protection is a hassle. In the IBM world most major software
producers have stopped using copyprotection since the business comunity will
hear none of that nonsense. We can only hope software makers for other
computers soon follow suit. If that card I got with DMuisc is any indication,
maybe the tides have started to turn.

Barry — I own both Dmusic and DpaintII in the unprotected versions. Both
programs are well worth the price, even including the extra $$$ for the non-cp
disk… they are the exception though, as both programs truly excel in their
respective areas. And, they are not games, in the usual sense of the word. I
wouldn't count on seeing that attitude with games and so on. (I just wish
Dmusic wasn't so crash-prone… There are times when it gets _really_ close to
going into the trash, but there is no alternative program other than Sonix, and
Sonix just doesn't cut it) –Ben–

Yesterday my Marauder II arrived. It cost $24.00 and made a deprotected
copy of DMusic in about 2 minutes. Just to clarify-deprotected, not just copied
so it could be installed on hard disk. This is version 1.1 of MII. I borrowed a
friends version 1.0 a couple of weeks ago and this couldn`t do it. The list of
software that can be cpied with MII is as long as your armand I didn`t notice 1
EA product not on the list-actually, where it says "cpied" above it should read
"deprotected".
I`m not a software theif, and I`m not going to be distributing copies of
DMuisc, ProMIDI, or anything else. I think that the software industry is
eventually going to come around to the fact that not everyone is trying to rip
them off and that the problems they cause people with their schemes may just be
costing them more than any money they save with "protection"-which can be
defeated very easily. Ben, if I were you, I`d by MII, and the next time a
software distributor tells you that you can but the program for $150 and a
backup for $20.00, well you get the idea.

Barry, I _own_ Marauder II now… I use whenever I'm forced to, also. But if I
have an alternative (Dpaint, Dmusic) I use the alternative. It's a matter of
principle. I look at it this way; if EA offers an unprotected version, and
nobody buys it, then they'll stop offering it and in general forget the idea.
If we buy it, to show, yes, this type of release _does_ have extra value, then
_maybe_ they'll get the idea. –Ben–
