Do you have plans for a Turbo-Silver 3.0 module for Interchange. When do you expect it to be out? Will there be an upgrade option from the 2.0 version and how much will it cost. Thanks in advance.

Greg – We specifically designed 3.0 to be able to read 2.0 objects and cells, so you should be able to go from interchange to 3.0. You just cant go the other way yet.

What a silly person I am. I hadn't thought of that and since I use Silver exclusively I guess I can use Interchange as is just to get other objects.

Greg – I'm sure that both Syndedis and Mimetics will eventually put the new format into their products when they have enough demand. Stan

I don't think it's a question of demand, it's more a question of time! I told ya, Stan, send me a pre-paid programmer, and I'll have them do all sorts of cool products! 🙂

Perhaps I could rent ya a programmer! I do think however that since 3.0 has only been out for a couple of weeks, the demand can''t be too much. If 4 guys ask for a particular feature or modification, I very graciously thank them for their suggestion, and put it in the things to think about file. But if 1 500 guys ask for the same change or modification, it time to lite a fire under the talent.

Stan, you underestimate yourself. With all the beta versions and early versions of 3.0 y'all handed out before it shipped, and judging from the calls we got asking for 3.0 Silver modules, you'd think Southern had already shipped the first truckload already. BTW, when do I get to see a copy? 🙂 I could really use the new manual.

Actually, Southern's first batch went out this afternoon. I should be able to get you out a copy tomorrow. Between processing the umpteen upgrades, and fightin thiis damn flu I have let some stuff slip through the cracks. – Sorry. Stan.

The new manual is FANTASMAGORICAL! (really big improvement, you could say.:) I only hope it can help me figger out why my renderings all come out like they were done in Graphicraft. <grin> Personally, I don't want anything from Syndesis that doesn't include a TSilver3.0 module! <grin again> –Eet–

Phantasmagorical has a different meaning than you implied, I think, recalling my college Greek etymology classes… I certainly hope it's a bit more concise than that!

You're exactly right! You don't need to own several 3D packages to need InterChange. If you want to use Sculpt or VideoScape objects you've downloaded from Compuserve, or have a friend with a different 3D package, and want to share objects; these are all great reasons to get InterChange!

After seeing what harv laser did, I want Interfonts! –Eet-harv laser did, I want Interfonts! –Eet-(oops, hit a blank line, habit from bbsing. sorry.)

Yeah, I saw Harv's picture, too! I was ipressed. Another impressive InterFont rendering / anition came from another beta tester, Kara Blohm, a well-known name in fonts. She's converting her bitmap fonts to InterFont format. Plus, we've got other hot font artists working on font disks and fonts for the InterFont disk itself. It was very satisfying, a few months ago, when I got the first 3D text objects from InterFont. I was really surprised at the great output you can get from Sculpt, VideoScape, and Silver when you have some nice objects! Turn up the rez to video, and things are soooo smooth, they look soooo nice when you zoom by those logos… I can't wait to see what people with free time can do with this product. Free time? What's that? I come up with so many product ideas, I'm booked into the nineties.

John – I know what you mean. I'm trying to scare up some graphic work (in conjunction with a local computer video company) and everything I touch gives me ideas for new stuff to try! I wish I had a longer day! (okay, everyone that knows me says I spread myself too thin, but, what do you expect? I have an Amiga!! <grin>) How bout sharing some of your ideas? <grin again> I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours. <grin for the third and last time> –Eet–

(Pardon me for being in a verbose mode…) The other thing that impressed me about InterFont output was the Professional Page output. I whipped up the Aegis Draw module in a few minutes one night, after getting inspired about it, and when Harriet sent me the PostScript output from the Laserwriter, I was floored. You can use InterFont to make logos and custom lettering for Pro Page – just select the font, enter the text, select Aegis Draw as output, and push a few buttons, and you've got big, sharp, scalable text on the screen. Unlike the screen-rep fonts, you see exactly what you'll get when it's PostScript-ized, because the fonts are structured objects, and are rendered at 300 dpi. With Aegis Draw, you can even rotate the text, which is normally impossible in Pro Page. (Hmm. Maybe I should put in a secret option to rotate the Aegis Draw object… 🙂

John – Glad you decided to be verbose! I'm VERY interested in Postscript compatibility; especially in ProPage. (Ask almost anyone that co's in amigatech; I've been yakking aLOT about our newsletter lately.) How much is Interfont, again? and, do I need Interchange to use it (especially Postscript-wise)? (can't afford both right away (tho.. eventually!) –Eet–

InterFont lists for $119.95, and it includes InterChange, so you can use it right out of the box. The package includes InterChange, the Sculpt and VideoScape modules, the Aegis Draw module, the InterFont Designer, the editor used to make structured fonts, the InterFont module, used to enter text and set characteristics, like size, italic/bold, justification, texture, etc. When used to send things to the Aegis Draw module, you'll get an Aegis Draw file that can be imported into Pro Page. I'm busy talking to Gold Disk, to get their Pro Draw format, so we'll be compatible with that when it comes out. They've also announced Design 3D, their entry into the 3D modeling and animation market. The miracle is, is that InterChange has a modular system that lets us add modules when new formats appear. ARexx? Hey, I was out a year ago. 🙂 We're thinking about ARexx support, too.

John – BTW, I'm the short little guy (sounds redundant, I know, but also true. 🙂 that came up to your booth at AmiEXPO Chicago and said, "Hi, John. I'm Eet from Amigaforum." So, next time (New York, hope, hope?) you'll know who that short little guy is! –Eet–

Yes, we do hope to support the newer Turbo Silver format, but the product hasn't been announced yet, and I' ve learned not to talk about things until they are ready. If you have sent in your registration card for InterChange and the existing Turbo Silver module, then you will get a postcard telling of the new Module. Also, Turbo Silver 3.0 does load 2.0 objects, so as long as you don't want to go 3.0 -> 2.0, you'll be OK.
