A few weeks ago I posted a copy of a message alledgedly from someone named "Hans Mayor" in Germany claiming that "Crunch", or "Master Cruncher" was a pirated commercial program. To make a long story short, the authenticity of that message, in my mind, is now in doubt. I wrote a registered letter to "Hans Mayor" at the address provided; I explained that *I* was the one that had uploaded it to CompuServe and PeopleLink, and that I had no way of knowing it was pirated (I downloaded it from GEnie); I also wanted to buy a legitimate copy if possible. A week or so ago my letter came back marked "Unbekannt" (German for "Unknown"). Several other things on the yellow sticker on the envelope could have been checked off, including "Moved Without Forwarding Address", "Insufficient Address", "Refused", "Unclaimed", but only "Unknown" was checked. I have to assume that the address exists, but that no one named "Hans Mayor" or "Bit Soft Programming" is there. If anyone at all has any knowledge of the true origins of "Crunch" that can be confirmed, please let me know. If anyone possibly knows what BBS the message from "Hans Mayor" originated on, please let me know too. Or, (last resort here) if anyone knows someone in West Germany with an Amiga that might be better able to check this out and confirm whether "Bit Soft Programming" exists, I'd appreciate that too.
