To be honest, the SCSI performance off of Twin-X will not be dramatically high but should be comparable to the average budget priced dedicated disk controller. This is because there's literally nothing special built into the module to boost speed. As such, its a very basic disk controller. There should be no problem using fast drives. They will make up for the entirely average performance of the SCSI module. The rational behind the SCSI module was not to make a performance wizard but rather to provide the basic functionality to people who have a Twin-X for someother reason. In other words, having the SCSI module available serves to round out the general purpose nature of the Twin-X concept. ESDI drives can be used in SCSI environments with the use of a converter (or drive which performs the conversion). If it talks SCSI, the control- ler really doesn't care to know what's on the other end of the wire. We've just started a total rewrite of the Serial/2 driver. As I mentioned before, the current driver MOSTLY works. In our judgement we will have more success writing a new one from scratch keeping in mind the lessons learned from the first driver than trying to get the last 2 percent out of the current one. Since this is a software only upgrade, we will provide it free of charge (except for the materials and postage…about 2 bucks) the new driver to anyone purchasing the Serial/2 module with the interim driver.
