Finally….YES let the CLI rot in hell!!!! I want the Amiga to be more user
friendly so all the people that are thinking of a new system will will take
it as being a STABLE machine.I can't see any reason to develope its "IBM"
type CLI world with the state of its "So called user interface".I hate
forcing someone into using the CLI or a utility program because the user
interface weeps!I feel you should at least have the ability to…. 1. Copy
*ANY* file from anywhere to anywhere 2. Delete *ANY* file from anywhere 3.
rename any file 4. make a directory 5. rename same 6. See a complete
listing of the drive you are in.
That's what I would like to at the very least. Get the user interface so
that a new user( to computers ) can sit down and use the damn computer.
Also, as the one that started this thread, I find it interesting how far
one can "wander" from the oringinal question. Shoot, I just wanted info on
a non-interlaced mode! See Ya Kurt L.
Well, Kurt, this is what has happened on the Amiga. Because of the cool
features and CLI-oriented nature of it, the Amiga community attracted a
large number of hacker-type people who only wanted to work in the CLI. It
shows. It shows in public domain offerings, it shows in commercial
software.
Nah, let the CLI live, I sez. Think of it as the command console where
that system administrator does his thing, and the WB being the pretty user
interface. 8) Anyway. I do agree WB needs to be whacked heavily to where
you aren't FORCED to CLI except for those really esoteric chores like
installing a HD or suchlike. Still, a lot of the blame for the current
sorry state of things is the writers of those neat utilities aren't willing
(or able) to wedge the necessary overhead into their pride and joy. And if
you're willing to spend a few bucks, never really need to see the dread 1>
prompt ever again. 8)
