SYSOP(X) Subject: Amiga HELP! As a brand new member to your forum, I was
amazed (should I have been?) to find no reference or assistance (12 pages
of Forum Directory printouts) for Amiga! Yes, I know that the Amiga is
relatively new to the world of postscript and the MAC/PC dominace in DTP,
but the Amga has made inroads into that area with the advent of Gold Disk's
Professional Page, City Desks, etc. And, for those of us who have made the
commitment to Amiga feel left out in the dark.
FIRST: Does Adobe have Amiga formatted bit mapped fonts available for
sale?I recently purchased .metric fonts from Gold Disk for Pro Page and
found that I have to "create" my own bit mapped fonts to utilize them for
output to a Linotronic Service Bureau utilizing your Adobe Library. I
—and, I'm sure a lot of other Amiga owners— would be more than willing
to pay for your library — Amiga formatted.
Currently, there are some PD Programs in the Amiga Arts Forum to translate
MAC formatted "Adobe" fonts to Amiga, but I'm sure you're aware of the
hassel! Which leads me to another question. SECONDLY: There is a heated
discussion in the Amiga Vendor Forum.postscript topic regarding the
licensing of Adobe "fonts", and the ability to translate those fonts from
MAC without getting into legal infringements on patents and trademarks.
Your comments directly on that Forum would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
for your assistance regarding the Amiga and Adobe. I'll be paying this
Forum regular visits to see the results. Thanks.
Adobe does not currently have an Amiga font product for sale. As far as the
legal implications of translating the fonts, I'll have to check on that and
report back. We had a discussion about Amiga products in our last staff
meeting as a matter of fact, so your comments are timely. I'll pass along
the interest to the appropriate persons here at Adobe. FYI-there is a list
of Amiga software that supports PostScript in DL8.
