YES! Scan your artwork as best you can, then save it as an Encapsulated
PostScript File (EPS or EPSF are the usual abbreviations). Once in this
format, a scan can be "Placed" into an Illustrator file using the
"Place…" command in the File menu. The image will appear (in artwork
mode) as a square with an "x" through it…you'll only see the actual image
when you print or preview. EPS Scans placed into Illustrator can be
rotated, skewed, enlarged, etc, just like any other object; one very nice
trick is to use a mask in conjunction with the scan to "fill" an irregular
shape with an image. If your scanner softwear won't let you save in EPS
format, some retouching softwear (like Digital Darkroom and Image Studio)
can…They'll also let you improve/modify the image much more than most
standard scanning softwear can.
