This question concerns the Super Fat Agnus chip. I have
received conflicting information about whether or not this
chip is usable in an Amiga500. I am going to purchase an
Amiga 500 soon and would like to have this chip installed
if possible. One dealer told me that Commodore has begun to
install these chips in new Amiga 500's while another dealer
told me that the Super Fat Agnus cannot be installed in the
A500. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Also, what is the general opinion as to where to mail
order an Amiga500.
YES, the SuperAgnus is usable on ALL US A500's and A2000's.
The only machines that will have problems are the 1000 till Greg Tibbs board
comes out, and the GERMAN A2000 (with 2 rca plugs on back instead of 3).

Yes, the new 1 meg AGNUS chip can be installed in an A500. (I'm typing this
note on an A500 with one installed. 8)
There is one thing to look out for, though. If you do not have any more FAST
memory (i.e. you plan to have only 1 meg of memory total) think a bit before
you have it installed. There are a lot of programs that at the present time
will not work in a 1 meg machine that is all CHIP memory. (These seem to have
fixes in the works, but don't be surprised when one of your favorite games
suddenly stops working after you have the chip installed.) The programs that
break are those that are coded to require FAST memory and refuse to load in
CHIP memory. These would have been programs that require 1 meg to run. Until
recently that meant that you had to have FAST memory, and the programmer
specified FAST memory as being required in order to save CHIP memory. (Not
saying that was correct, just that it was done.)
I've got a total of 3 megs now and I find it to be a very nice configuration
for the A500.

I'd recommend not returning to the dealer who told you that it wouldn't
work. The installation is identical on all 500s and 2000s.
