I downloaded a file the other day with an extension of GIF. It is supposed to
be some kind of picture. How do I 'unpack' it or whateve I have to do to see
it??
You must have a GIF viewer to look at that picture. In Lib9 you will find
HAMGIF. I think AMGIF is still in Lib1. Either will display it for you.

Actually, you don't need to unpack GIF images. GIF is a non-computer specific
picture format, orignated by CIS a few years back. To view these on an Amiga,
you need a GIF viewing program. Two such programs, both available here in LIB
9, are HAMGIF, and VirtGIF.
GIF files don't need to be compressed since the format includes the
compression already. For more information on GIF, you can stop into the PICS
forum, or visit the GALLERY forum, which has an absolutely huge number of GIF
images.
