Dave. I just downloaded your file, HDWARN.ARC, and I must say it was very enlightening. I've only had one experience with Computer Mart ( a piece of software) and I had no problems. This Roy character that you've been dealing with sounds like a real winner. I've had similar experiences with people like him and it made me want to crawl through the phone on the other end and confront them face to face or face to fist <grin>. I'm buying a harddrive in the next couple of weeks. I just haven't been able to make up my mind. I was looking at the Seagate ST251N and believe it or not was probably going to order it from Computer Mart as they seemed to have the best price. Not so anymore! I think that I'll spend the extra $120.00 and go with the Quantum Q40 and maybe the Xetec fastcard. Thanks again for letting the buying public in on your problems. It's the only legal way of striking back that I know of. Hit 'em right where it hurts-in the pocketbook. Maybe, if enough poeople refuse to put up with their way of doing things, they'll improve. George

Thanks, George for the note. I'm glad I can help to make your decisions easier. I'm not just attempting to alert Amiga users to the problems I have experienced, I am also attempting to obtain better service (for us) from Computer Mart in the future. Actually, there are many more things you can do legally to resolve problems like this, and I will provide Amiga users with a complete history of my problems in the future… I have found that we don't have the 'line limit' in this message area for me to explain all the steps I've taken so far, so I will have to reserve it for yet another file. In short, I've contacted the Attorney General's Office in the State of Ohio, but if you live in Canada (and I have received mail from a user with a similar problem with Computer Mart who lives in Canada), you might want to contact the Attorney General's Office for Texas. Also, I've contacted the U.S. PostMaster to investigate for mail fraud. To update you, the Better Business Bureau could not obtain a response to my complaint, and my complaint is now a matter of Public record with the BBB. Finally, I have contacted several newspapers and TV stations in that area of Texas. I have received a response from The Dayton Daily News in Dayton, Ohio and KPRC – TV (Channel 2) in Houston, Texas. Both are working on my problem. KPRC – TV is an NBC affiliate that reaches about 810,000 people on any given day. – I'll keep you posted. Dave

George, I hope you are enjoying your GVP hard drive by now… Great Valley Products has produced a fine line of hardware for the Amiga. – By the way, Jay Miner (the Father of the Amiga) has one of GVP's 80 megabyte drives, so they can't be too hateful! Seems things are picking up around here (my house) with regard to Computer Mart… KPRC TV (Channel 2) in Houston has been able to obtain the first constructive response from Computer Mart that I've received in 6 months… Very encouraging! Computer Mart has requested a trace on MY last shipment (4/7/89) and I have complied. Also, I have received a response from the Regional Inspector of the US Postal Service, and they are investigating Computer Mart for mail fraud and other violations of US Postal code. In addition, the Attorney General's Office is investigating. Finally, I have written the Direct Marketing Association in New York, New York with my complaint. – Just a note here, the current issue of Amiga Transactor has an article on hard drive trouble- shooting, and there is a nice write up about WHY Seagate hard drives arrive in poor operating condition so often. I guess it's almost time for me to put together another updated file about my problem, 'cause I still have not heard anything more from the magazines I have written. I guess I'll have to concede that the magazines definitely DON'T have the individual user in mind when they print. Looks to me they're after the revenue instead. Talk to ya later. – Dave
