This is NOT the time to start buying 50MHz 030 accelerators. It seems
far more worthwhile to wait for the 040.
As to the 33MHz 386, with an IBM you need that speed in order to scroll
the screen 8)

Your right about that Ethan. This 33mhz machine finally has the speed I
need to run some gaming programs. They were terribly slow on my 286/12.
I've seen Ultima VI's intro on a 20MHz 386. I could visibly see the
screen scroll as it moved from right to left.

Hmmm… I had Ultima VI running on my 33mhz machine and it was beautiful.
The intro is the best part. I played Dungeon Master on an Apple //GS I
used to have, and I miss that game quite a bit. DM is one of my main
reasons for an Amiga purchase, and the ability to emulate a mac.
I DID say that the thing was visibly scrolling on a 20MHz 386. A 33MHz
will be much faster.

I had heard Motorola hadn't completely debugged the `040 yet. Other
than som heavy-duty ray tracing, why would anyone want anything faster than
the 50 MHz board?
Intel has announced they will come out with a 50 MHz 80486 early next
year, and the `586 perhaps at the end of `91.

There are always uses for faster chips! On the NeXT, for example, it
allows Display Postscript to be used without completely slowing the machine
to a crawl.
